I wasn’t planning on doing an update tonight. Mainly because I wasn’t supposed to be sitting here, at my computer. The original scenario was that I’d be attending the Sydney Underground Film Festival’s after party, watching The Paper Scissors perform, which would have provided me with a presumably energetic show to review for tomorrow’s update.

But as I eventually found out – it wasn’t meant to be. I should have taken it as a sign at my journey’s start, when I’d filled my car with a tank of petrol, only to discover that I’d left my wallet at home. Things literally started going downhill not long after that. Halfway driving up Mount Ousley, my car’s motor suddenly stopped, and I began rolling backwards in three lane, peak hour traffic.

So $80 and a tow truck later, finds me sitting here with a car that won’t start and not in the Big Smoke at a film festival with a Paper Scissors’ performance.

Coincidentally however, Jai from the aforementioned band had emailed me three killer, raucous tracks from their debut record, Less Talk, More Paper Scissors, only hours before I left. And now, whilst not in their presence, at least I’m presently enjoying the sounds one of Sydney’s finest and original new musical acts.

The Less Talk, More Paper Scissors album launch is at Spectrum this Friday 14th, with support from Cuthbert and The Nightwalkers and Richard In Your Mind with tickets available here through Moshtix. Fingers crossed that my car’s working by then – I’d love to go.

I still reckon you should have gone with the ‘dwarfs ate my car’ story. If you are seriously up for Friday then perhaps we can try and remake the situation. I still have the SUFF media pass if you want a souvenir.

Oh and go and read the review of George A. Romero’s Diary of the Dead that’s just been posted in AICN (skip the spoilers). Hot damn it sounds awesome.

Well I have never seen them so I feel your pain. Then again, I ride a bike most days and my car sits out the front. You should try it! See you tomorrow night!
