Here’s what Radiohead’s blog, Dead Air Space, had to say a few hours ago:

Hello Everyone.

Well, the new album is finished, and it’s coming out in 10 days;

We’ve called it In Rainbows.

Love from us all.

Jonny.

So, you’re one of the biggest UK bands of all time, your six-album contract has finally run out, you’ve got billions of crazed fans obsessing over the release of Album Numero Seven, and you decide to supply it online for (more or less) free? I’m sold!

Officially available on Radiohead’s website from the 10th October, this digital gem will come delivered to your hungry hard drive for literally however much you choose to pay for it! And who said nothing comes for free these days?

However, those of you who aren’t shitting themselves with glee over the prospect of new Radiohead of the digital variety, have just as much reason to get excited. A shiny new “Discbox” version, including In Rainbows on CD, two 12″ records, an enhanced CD with new songs, photographs, plus more zany Radiohead artwork than you can poke a stick at, will also be available, “on or before Dec 3″ – what ever that means.

And how much for this piece of merchandise heaven, you ask? A mear £40.00 (AUD$92.14) with all postage, handling and Thom Yorke love included. Pre-Order both here.

The best thing about all of this is that it will allow Radiohead to essentially have the data for one of the best musical experiments of all time: How much is music worth to a person? Especially in such a time where digital music sales are legit.

There will be folks who pay nada for it, which is quite fine. And then there are those who will probably donate a few dollars, just because it’s ethical and what they’re used to.

Then there’s the folk who will splurge and buy the diskbox collection.

The genius is that all of the above purchases are for the very same album.

    Record companies, be scared.

Then there’s the noobs that don’t read the instructions properly and attempt to buy both the download and the discbox at the same time.

I haven’t really listened to anything since OK; The Bends being one of the seminal albums in my musical loving history. But this stunt is enough to get me back on the listening block, if only to proffer a kindly “fuck you” to the music industry.

My question to you kids is, how much will you pay?

well i just ordered the $92.14 boxed set. does wanting to go and download the music without paying anything for it seem unethical? i just don’t want to have to wait 2 months for my discs to arrive. i figure i’m just getting mp3 versions of something i’ve already paid for yeah?

I’ve done the fanboy thing and gone ahead and ordered the ‘Diskbox’ collection, which means I’ll download it on the tenth as well.

So to answer your question – $92.14.
