After months of being severely ill with a pesky middle ear infection and having to cancel a heap of shows on her most recent tour, Regina Spektor is back and ready to add another track to her ever expanding “B-Sides and Rarities” album. Although no such album exists or has even been spoken about, this girl has got so many demos, b-sides, covers, live bootlegs and rarities floating around the web that it’s only a matter of time.

This time around it’s her Happy New Year! song which was released as a free download on the US iTunes store just the other day, and naturally, 12MC is here to bring it to you first. Unfortunately for us simpleton Aussie iTuners, for some reason we’re not allowed to access the US store, but thanks to those two years of IT I did in high school and an old VHS copy of the 1995 classic The Net, I was able to “hack the iTunes mainframe” and get my grubby hands on said iTune for your listening pleasure.

Beautiful. I think I am going to have to find an album, just on the strength of that one track.

I’ll hook you up, Sir Covington.

Don’t hook anyone up. Regina gave this beautiful song away. Now let’s thank her by buying her music.

would somebody be kind enough to send me the track? it isn’t available in the UK and as she has given it away for free I’m sure it would be fine…
    Thanks

das brevy, it’s surely much better not to jump to conclusions and set oneself up as a moral judge. Whatever the arrangement between Maria and Mr Covington is up to them – “hook you up” could mean, “point you in the direction of what to listen to…” Man alive!

Thanks for providing a chance to listen to this, Maria. It’s really irritating when access to music is blocked by intercontinental divides.

I think Maria meant with drugs, to enjoy the music with. ;)

  7. 7 Maria

    Haha indeed I did.
Christian – the link is in this post, just right click and Save Target As on the song title in green at the bottom.

It’s the green that makes it hard for Christians to see. Arrgh, my eyes, my beautuiful eyes!

  10. 10 Maria

Thank you, Rory, that’s exactly what I meant.

Thanks for the song, Maria! You show them iTune, who’s the boss. Regina rocks!
